What they're doing is making a new version of it, a version that will eventually be required for all wikis, replacing the current version. Right now they're letting wikis test out the new one. I think part of it is so you can edit templates in visual. Honestly I'm not very fond of visual mode in any form and I only use it for minor spelling/grammar changes (since it's the default) because it puts a ton of wanted source code in if you try anything more.

<p>Ohhh, I guess that'd be good for users who don't understand source code yet since they can edit templates now. Anyone who can edit in the source editor can just disable it in their preferences anyway.
